The 1840s marked the arrival of many of the German settlers in Texas but the first German pioneer is said to have been Johann Friedrick Ernst. We will trace their steps from Indianola and follow the route of Prince Carl von Solms Braunfels to his colony at New Braunfels. From there, we will visit the German settlement towns at Gruene, Comfort, and the tiny settlement at Luckenbach. Moving inland we’ll explore the German history of Fredericksburg and visit the local museum.
