Tour Details

The Presidents of the Republic tour is a chance to visit the home sites and the gravesites of some of the Republic of Texas’ five famous presidents. We will begin with the home and museum of Sam Houston and his grave at Oakwood cemetery in Huntsville, Texas. At the San Jacinto Museum we’ll watch a film on early Texas. After lunch, we’ll take the ferry across to President Burnet’s home, then travel down to Galveston to his grave. In Richmond our guides will provide tours of President Lamar’s home and grave site followed by a visit to Washington-on-the-Brazos where we’ll get to explore a working farm that was once the home site of Anson Jones. The tour will end in Houston where we will visit his grave in Houston’s historic Glenwood cemetery.

Depart at 9am.


Day 1Arrive in Huntsville, Texas

In Huntsville, visit the home and gravesite of Sam Houston as well as his giant statue.
Lunch in Huntsville before heading for San Jacinto where we’ll take the ferry across to
Burnet’s farm then head down to Galveston to visit his gravesite.
Delightful evening in the Victorian Inn, one of Galveston’s oldest Bed and Breakfasts.

Day 2Depart Galveston

From Galveston, we’ll drive to Richmond to see the homesite and grave of President Lamar. From there we’ll visit West Columbia, the site of Texas first capital.
That evening we’ll stay at the beautiful Far View Inn Bed and Breakfast.

Day 38 am Departure for Washington-on-the-Brazos

From Brenham, we’ll go to Washington-on-the-Brazos to see President Anson Jones’ Barrington Farm. We’ll enjoy lunch at the nearby restaurant and then head into Houston to visit Jones’ grave in the lovely and peaceful Glenwood Cemetery before returning to Huntsville.
