The Alamo is not the only mission in Texas.
This tour provides a chronological view of the missions and the forts that defended them. They are scheduled so you can enjoy the festivities of Mexican Independence on September 16th. Even more impressive will be the celebration of the religious festival celebrating the Day of Guadalupe on December 12th.
We will begin in Goliad at the restored mission of La Bahía del Espiritu Santo Texas State Park and its protective fort of La Bahia across the San Antonio River, run by the Catholic Church. At Victoria we will get a chance to learn about the early French and their attempted settlements in Texas.
Moving up river, we’ll visit the ranching mission of San Francisco de la Espada, then learn about early farming at the mission of San Juan Capistrano. At Mission Concepcion we’ll get to see an original, perfectly preserved mission and we will end at Mission San José, called the Queen of the Missions. By the time you are through, you will understand and appreciate the history of early Hispanic Texas.
