East Texas - Jefferson and Shreveport 3-Day Getaway

Jefferson, at one time the second largest port in Texas after Galveston, is a quaint bed and breakfast community just north of Marshall, Texas on Hwy 59. We will visit charming mercantile stores, ancient homes and then take a bayou tour on the Turning Basin River Boat tours. You will think you're part of Deliverance when Captain Shaggy fills you in on the history and mystery of Jefferson with wild stories of moonshine stills, Civil War ammunition magazines and even Big Foot. We'll eat at the Haywood House and enjoy hearing stories from Miss Teresa about the hidden tunnel that served escaping slaves and moonshiners brining in liquor during prohibition. Part of their bar is an upside down confessional, and for those interested, there is a luxurious cigar lounge on the top floor.

The second day we'll have one of their popular story tellers step-aboard our bus and give us the low-down on the Hatchett Lady, Diamond Bessie, and Jay Gould and the history of the best and worst of Jefferson. After a delicious lunch, we'll head across the Red River into Louisiana for an afternoon in Bossier City to explore their River Walk and shop in their Outlet Stores. For those who would like to indulge, the Margaritaville and Horseshoe Casinos are just a step away. We'll stop for supper at Ralph and Kacoo's in Boosier City before returning to our hotel in Jefferson.

The third day we will visit the Jefferson museum, Jay Gould's railroad car, and shop in downtown Jefferson. To end our tour, you will be awestruck as we cruise the silent swamps of magnificent Caddo Lake, the largest bald cypress forest in the world, and one of the ten best places to visit in Texas.
