These historic towns are gems in East Texas that you must see.
Palestine (pronounced Palesteen) will be our base of operations as we visit Jacksonville and Rusk. home of the famous Texas State Railroad. We will explore Palestine's famous historic downtown including Braly's Ace Hardware, housed in a 1911 elementary school, the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and the famous Oxbow and Eilenberger's Bakeries for delicious treats.
In Jacksonville we will start with a docent-led visit to the Vanishing Texana Museum and hear the stories by wonderful Larry Lydick as our historical guide. While in Jacksonville we will also visit a tomato basket factory and even a ranch with Bison! At Loves Lookout enjoy the astounding 36 miles of open views.
The third day, we will take the lunch train to Rusk through the Dogwoods (plan on joining us in the Spring for the blooming Dogwoods) and spend time exploring Rusk's downtown before then relaxing on the ride home.
