This tour is much more than just getting to watch over million bats leave the TDCJ Warehouse each evening.
We offer you and your children (under 12 are free), an informative lecture about the bats and their lifestyles.
Dr. Will Godwin's SHSU Nature Center has preserved samples of some of our Mexican free-tailed bats
which you will have plenty of time to inspect and photograph. After viewing the preserved bats,
you will have the opportunity to hear from some of the most knowledgeable experts in the field of
bat conservation. After seeing the bats up close and personal, you will be taken out to the
best spots to watch the bats on their evening migrations.
Itinerary
7:00 pm - Meet at Historic Tours of Texas Offices. Plenty of places to park.
Board the Joye Mobile to drive to the SHSU Nature Center.
7:15 - View preserved bats.
8:00 - (approximately) Lecture by one or more of the following scientists
- Dr. Will Godwin, Director of the Nature Center,
- Retired TPWD officer Dan Jones,
- Professors and Grad students from the SHSU Biology Department.
9:00 (approximately) Board the Joye Mobile to visit viewing sites.
10:00 (approximately) Return to Historic Tours of Texas offices.
