Ask the journalists from the Texas Reporter and Texas Bucket List! They love telling you about the wonderful places they have seen, the many tiny towns in Texas they have visited, and the delicious restaurants where they have eaten. But they leave us with our mouths watering and our curiosity aroused. Do they actually take us there? Nope!
You don’t have to be jealous any longer! I’m taking on the job of satisfying your curiosity and your hunger! You won’t have to tackle the planning, the driving or the tour guiding. I am dedicating Friday afternoons so you can visit some of these fascinating and tempting places. Our newest outings: the Tiny Town Tours.
Every Friday at about 10 a.m. from our offices at 1212 12th Street, we will load up to visit one of these wonderful little hidden gems of Texas history. We will travel in the Joye Mobile, our comfortable, limousine style 15-passenger party van (yes with lights, music and a stripper pole). We’ll stop to eat at one of the local restaurants to help bring funds into the local economy. Then we’ll spend the afternoon touring the town and the surrounding countryside. Since we can only carry 12 passengers, these are cozy, intimate tours for friends and family. If you didn’t know each other before the trip, you will by the end of the day!
Your tour guide will fill you in on the history of the town. Residents are proud of their towns and we can be, too. “Tiny” should not be seen as derogatory! It isn’t just small in comparison to, say, Houston! Did you know that little Riverside was, at one time, a thriving riverport and train depot? I’m sure you’ve eaten at the wonderful Woodbine Hotel, but have you visited the lovely cemetery in Madisonville? And what about the amazing history of timber in Trinity, or the gorgeous painted church in New Waverly? You’ll have a chance to explore these wonderful places every Friday afternoon, a different town each Friday. Sign up now! The seats will go fast.
If you have any suggestions for places to go (perhaps your home town), let me know and we’ll add it to the trips.
