We will start our tour at the Bayou Bend plantation home of Ima Hogg. Their Plantation Home at Varner-Hogg, now a museum, shows what a working cotton plantation looked like. Governor Hogg refused to let the family sell the land which proved a wise move when oil was discovered there during the 1930s.
With the wealth from that oil, Ima Hogg built her magnificent home at Bayou Bend which we will tour after a short break for lunch. Ima Hogg supported the arts in Houston by contributing paintings and artifacts to Houston’s Museum of Fine Arts and she founded the Houston Opera. Her influence is still felt today.
Itinerary
8:00am - Depart from 1225 11th Street
9:30am - Rest break.
11:00am - Arrive at Bayou Bend – tour the grounds and home.
1:00 - Lunch at local eatery.
4:30pm - Return to Huntsville, TX.
