Ima Hogg – A Privileged Life of Service.

Details

We will start our tour at the family home at Varner Hogg Plantation.

Their Plantation Home at Varner-Hogg, now a museum, shows what a working cotton plantation looked like. Governor Hogg refused to let the family sell the land which proved a wise move when oil was discovered there during the 1930s.

With the wealth from that oil, Ima Hogg built her magnificent home at Bayou Bend which we will tour after a short break for lunch. Ima Hogg supported the arts in Houston by contributing paintings and artifacts to Houston’s Museum of Fine Arts and she founded the Houston Opera. Her influenceis still felt today.
